Kolam, from points to lines

A journey in the land of Kolam, a fleeting graphic art drawn by women of Tamil origin, from all communities. Between tradition and modernity, away from domestic world, the art of Kolam is moving into new territories.

En hommage et à la façon de Ryszard Kapuscinski, ce film est à la fois un portrait de ce grand écrivain, et l'histoire d'un pan crucial du continent  africain : la décolonisation. Kapuscinski en fut un témoin central. Il y séjourna durant quarante ans pour le compte de l’agence polonaise, la P.A.P., et il y consacra plusieurs livres, dont Ebène, qui lui donna une renommée internationale. Ce film nous raconte, à partir d'entretiens menés avec Kapuscinski en 2006 et des images d'archives,  comment il a vécu et analysé les événements -portrait de dictateur comme celui du simple citoyen-. En plusieurs chapitres, Kapuscinski évoque l’âme de ce grand continent.

 A White Heart in Africa

Paying a tribute to Kapuscinski, this film is both a portrait of the great writer and the story of a crucial period of Africa : decolonization. Kapuscinski has been a precious witness. He travelled through the black continent more than forty years, as a P.A.P. -polish press agency- agent, and wrote several books among which Ebony from which he gained international reputation. Mixing interviews conducted with him in 2006 with archives, this film tells us how he lived and understood the events -portraits of dictators as well as common citizens-. In several chapters, Kapuscinski recalls the African soul.
